Maddie came all the way from Katy, TX to have her senior pictures taken by us. It was quite an honor that we would have someone travel so far just for us! She did also happen to get a chance to visit family and friends, but I like to think we were the big reason for her trip.
It was extremely humid for Maddie's session. I couldn't believe how many times I had to wipe the fog from my lenses. Luckily, Maddie was extremely patient. I'm sure she was glad to get back in some AC between outdoor locations. I know I was!
Thanks for coming all the way from Texas to see us! We had a great time despite the humidity.
Be sure to check back soon for Maddie's Motion video.
Lauren is our first senior from Nebraska and currently holds the record for the longest drive to the studio clocking in at around 8 hours. I'll have to admit to being pretty flattered when I was told she had fallen in love with our work from that far away.
We had a blast with Lauren during her session. Her mom brought her to the studio and just threw her to the wolves! She stuck around for the first part of the studio session and left her all alone in our capable hands. They only had one vehicle that they drove down in so poor Lauren had to ride with the FX crew all over SE Kansas and SW Missouri to make all of our locations for her session. She probably heard more behind-the-scenes stuff than she ever wanted, but I think she still had a great time with us.
The highlight of the session for me was after we got to our last location. Being from Nebraska their family farms a lot of corn and she really wanted to show that side of her in one of her images. We found the perfect field the other day while driving to Webb City for another session. What I didn't realize at the time was that the corn was over 8 feet tall and our little senior is 5 foot nothing! We were out of daylight and it was after 8:30 so we decided to improvise and use the setting sun as a background for the corn. Lauren joined me on top of the Suburban's roof while Kylie the Intern held a single flash on a 12 foot boom pole to light the corn behind her. Kristina was on the ground to my right lighting Lauren with a second flash in a softbox. We went with a wide-angle shot to get the corn, Lauren, and the sky all in one shot. I was happy with the results!
Thank you Lauren for making the trip to see us. We can't wait to share the rest of your images!
-Mike, Kris, Roylan, and Kylie the Intern
Above and below are two behind-the-scenes shots from her session. She was a trooper!
I know it seems like forever has passed since we debuted Jaide's Senior Session on the blog, but Roylan is really tearing through the Motion Videos at an incredible rate. I love our photography, but I might love the videos he makes just a little bit more. I still haven't seen anything like what he's turning out. Check this one out to see for yourself!
Roylan and I met up with this lovely, young couple in Wichita a few weeks ago for their engagement session. We were extremely flabbergasted when we were contacted to shoot the engagement and wedding photos of legendary photographer Mike Sisk. You can check out some of his work here. We were a little nervous during the session having one of our photography icons watching us. Throughout the entire session we got great feed back from him, though. We know this to be true because after every shot he enthusiastically mumbled "FANTASTIC!" It was a great feeling to know that he approved of our technique.
Mike has definitely found a great girl! Annie was extremely laid back the entire session. This is a great quality to have considering she has to put up Mike! Though Roylan and I were thrilled to hear "FANTASTIC!" after every shot, it did start to get old after a while. I mean the first few times were great, but it does start to get like "Duh... we are R2K Photography!"
We fought the wind and a few sprinkles for most of the session. By the time we were done we were all famished, so we ate at Annie's all-time favorite restaurant. It was a FANTASTIC end to a FANTASTIC session!
In all seriousness, we are all looking forward to Mike and Annie's wedding in September. Mainly because they are a great couple and partly because we have never shot a wedding in Wichita. Oh, and it's going to be just FANTASTIC!
Be sure to check back for Mike and Annie's Motion video soon.
The FX Gang met up with Tricia and Charlie in Pittsburg for their engagement session earlier this week. Charlie is currently on leave from the National Guard. He returns to duty tomorrow, so it was a priority to get these posted before he left. FX would like to take this opportunity to thank Charlie and all the brave men and women who have served and who are currently serving our country! Without you, we wouldn't be able to do what we love.
Tricia and Charlie were great during the session. It was, of course, extremely humid and we had to fight the mosquitoes off a few times. At one point, I was taking some shots and Kylie the intern started slapping me. She said she was hitting away mosquitoes, but I'm not to sure!
Thanks for a great session and good luck with the wedding plans!
Jessica and Brian have had a lot of excitement in their lives lately...their recent wedding, Brian accepting a new job in California, and finishing the move the Sunday after their wedding. Luckily, they were pretty much moved before the wedding since Brian was already out there working and they just had to get a few of Jessica's clothes moved. Oh, and all the wedding presents!
The ceremony and reception went well. It was the transportation in between that made things interesting. Once we were ready to get in the limo to hit some outdoor locations, the driver informed us the radiator had a terrible leak. We had time for one location before the limo needed to get to the reception. Let me say...the wedding party made a smoking entrance to the reception!
Thanks for being great to work with and we hope everything goes well in California!
They just don't get any more photogenic than this! My favorite thing is the SCREAMING red hair. It's all natural I'm told, curls and all!
We met Jaide and her mom over in Webb City recently for her senior session and had a blast. It was surprising to me after I got home, but I've never photographed in Webb City before, but I'm certain I'll be making more trips there soon. Any new town is like a playground for us, full of places we haven't photographed before.
We ened up in Webb City out of necessity. We were schedule to be in Carl Junction for her session, but we arrived around an hour early to scout for places to photograph and we shocked when we couldn't find a single place I wanted to use. We've been in the smallest cities you can imagine, the most remote places in the four state area, and I've never come up empty handed like that. So, we promptly bailed on that and headed east to Webb City. I'm glad we did - we found some locations that were perfect for her.
Thank girls for an amazing session. Roylan is hard at work on her Motion Video as we speak, and it's shaping up to be his favorite ever. I can't wait to see it myself, and will definitely have it posted as soon as it's done. Check back soon!
We photographed Angela and Wes' engagement session a few weeks ago. Their wedding is coming up in September and we're anxiously waiting to work with them again. Until then, check out the Motion Video we made during their session. Enjoy!
Brandy has been one of the most impressive bride's I've ever met. I'm short on all of the details, but I know this woman was one heck of a taskmaster for her wedding. She was involved in every aspect of designing and decorating her wedding and reception. She even made her own bouquet! I never advise our clients to take on that much work for their wedding, but she did it all and did it with a smile!
Brandy and Jeff do know how to throw a party - the Mirza was bumping all night long and I can't imagine there was a person there that didn't have a blast.
I hope you guys enjoy all of the images. There were a couple that I absolutely fell in love with. Enjoy the slideshow and let us know what you think in the comments.
Morgan is one of my all-time favorite high school seniors. I don't know what it is about her, but there's a lot to love. To say she's extroverted would be an understatement. She's kind of an explosion of energy when she show's up and I've been around her enough now to know that she never really slows down. When she first showed up for her session it was like she'd been here a thousand times before. She even had her mom take photos of her with all of us:
We had a blast working with her during the session. She let me use one of my crazy thoughts for a shot on her in the studio. She's quite the writer, and I knew I wanted to feature that side of her in some of her photos. It turned out to be one of my favorites of the year if for nothing else for how much fun it was to do. You can check out the behind-the-scenes look at the shot here.
Her dad was nice enough to bring his hand-built chopper to part of the session for some shots as well. It made an awesome addition to the photos, although I think Morgan might be too sweet to be a biker chick!
We've still got her Motion Video to work on, so check back soon to see it. Thanks Morgan for being fantastic! We'll see you soon...
