PSU Graphics Department Tour
20 Members of the PSU Graphics Art Department visited the studio for nearly 2 hours today. They had arranged to bring a field trip for interested students and faculty to view the studio and listen to me ramble on about photography and our little operation. I think they picked up a lot - I certainly talked a bunch so I hope it was meaningful to at least a few of them! I was told that this was the best turnout they've had for any of their field trips so I hope it was everything they were expecting.
I really enjoy any opportunity to share my love for this industry and to help other photographers find their way in this work. If you represent a school or group that would like to arrange a visit, just give us a call!
They even brought a gift as a thank you for our time. It's a sweet pen with the departments name engraved on the side. Thank you guys for coming to see us and for the wonderful gift!

Andrea + Tori = Sweet 16
Andrea and Tori both recently turned 16 and decided they wanted to do a Sweet 16 photo session together...such a cute idea, wish I would have thought of it those many years ago when I was 16.
The girls had a ton of fun together and even brought along a few friends and a few pups! Kris and Mike shot this session in our new studio. Sorry about the delay getting these up guys, I'll see you soon for your sales presentation. Enjoy!

We Three
So we all decided to take a field trip to Pittsburg today to practice some lighting techniques in nasty light. We are awesome when the lighting is perfect - but we live in Kansas and oftentimes we find ourselves with less than perfect circumstances. Kristina's last 2 sessions have been in the pouring rain!
We are always working on making each other better photographers. Today we brought some extra toys to light our portraits of each other. These were taken at high noon when the lighting was at it's worst. We're definitely getting the hang of this!
We were going for some grungy, bad-ass kind of a look. That kind of explains why there aren't any smilies on these faces. Anyway, we just wanted to share some of our images with you!

Rainy Days
If dedication is something you look for in your photographer, then take a look at Kristina braving the elements for her recent family shoot for the Bubna's in Colony, Ks. Making a special trip for the session with the kids coming in from out-of-town for the family portraits, rescheduling was not an option. Mark was on hand to capture the circus with his iPhone, so I thought I'd share it with everyone. I was looking over Kris' shoulder while she was working on the session and saw some of the images - be sure to check back for the sneak-peek on the blog, she's got some great ones!

Almost done...
Mike and I also had the weekend of July 4 off (weren't supposed to, but our client changed her wedding date), so we spent it with the Clarks at Tablerock Lake. It was a blast! We arrived Thursday night around 9 p.m. and had about 20 mintues to set up both tents before the downpour. The weather was nasty and our tent was soaked, inside and out! But she made it, and that's all that matters!
The forecast called for rain every day and that is exactly what it did. We were lucky - it rained every night but was sunny every day. We spent the days on the boat and the nights at our campsite watching the fireworks from neighboring houses.
Saturday, Ryan and Natalie's family and friends came to see us. The poor boat is rated for 8 people and we had 10 along for the ride. It worked hard that day. It worked so hard, in fact, that we made people tube just to get the weight out of the boat!
The weekend was a blast and we hope to go again soon. I don't suppose anyone else would want to change their wedding date... (j/k!!)

Ok, so I said I would post 5 personal items within a week's time. It has been seven days since my last post, so I better get to movin! I waited on this post because I don't have pictures...
Mike and I had the weekend of June 28 off, so we headed to Noel for some canoeing action with the Clarks and my friend Suzy Collins and her crew (about 16 people). We opted not to take our camera because we didn't know what was going to happen. Natalie and Ryan brought their water cameras and several of Suzy's crew brought theirs as well. No one has developed them yet, so we don't have any to show you :(
The night before we left, we headed to Wal-mart to get the necessary items and ended up purchasing a new tent. Mike and Clark couldn't wait the 24 hours to set it up, so they used the studio to practice while Nat and I packed the food. (Turns out, they recommend you set the tent up before actually using it. Mike and Ryan rubbed this in our faces as soon as they read it. Can you believe they actually read the directions??)
Canoeing was a blast, except for the downpour and chilly weather we experienced the majority of the trip. The last 20 minutes we were on the water, the sun came out and graced us with its presence. It ended up being a nice evening. We spent it at our collective campsites around a campfire.
It's so nice to have a break...

New Stairs.
Finally.
After two and half years in the studio, we finally have the stairs we always said we would have.
The stairs to the left were made in 2006 by our contractor, Jim Jordan, and have done their job very well. However, we needed the metal stairs to make the studio construction complete, and it is finally complete.
Below are a few images from the installation of the stairs. We picked them up from R&R Welding the week of June 23; Mike painted them on our anniversary, June 25; and they were installed on June 26. It was a scary process because the stairs were so heavy, but in the end, it was worth it. No injuries!
At the installation party were Mark and Kristina Dent, Ryan and Natalie Clark, my dad Jack, and Mike and I. Emily and Nick joined us later to get the stairs into their final spot. (The girls watched and documented the event, while the guys did all of the heavy lifting.) Thank you so much to them for all of their help!

So much has been happening lately at the studio and in our personal lives, so I thought I should catch you up. I will try to get at least 5 posts on here this week to cover the past month.
We'll start with Mike's 25th birthday, which was on June 11. We spent the evening at his parent's house and enjoyed a fabulous Bamboo dinner with cake and ice cream for dessert. It was nice to get away from the studio. We have been so busy lately (working late into the night) and haven't had much free time. Sometimes you just have to LEAVE!
